I'm looking for a VMWare session containing a Linux or Unix build, with any reasonable accessibility solutions already installed. I'm not that interested in reinventing the wheel on unix/linux accessibility; I'm just looking for a unix environment in which I can prototype an Asterisk implementation. An ISO of a linux/unix distribution in which some form of screen reader automatically loads as a part of its boot process would work as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
If you don't mind doing everything through ssh send me a private mmessage and I'll give you a preconfigured ubuntu immage that gets a dhcp address which you can ssh into.
ssh would be a reasonable solution and would let me work with the VMWare session supplied by the people who put out Asterisk. I'm looking for a script for PuTTY or possibly another terminal client that lends itself a bit better to use with jaws. With PuTTY it is necessary to use the jaws cursor to review the contents of the terminal window to identify any changes that have taken place in its output. Something that would be more responsive to the PC cursor, behaving like Vocal Eyes did back in the DOS days would be perfect.
Your best bet as far as GUI Windows ssh clients is to use Secure CRT. It has much better cursor tracking than PuTTY. It costs $100 and is available from www.vandyke.com. They link to jaws scripts.
Download cygwin, install everything if you have the hard drive space for it, and use it's ssh client.
Try OpenSSH. It works quite well with Jaws, no Jaws cursor needed, and, it's open source and free.
